The Christmas season is well underway, and the broad pool of iGaming professionals in Malta is preparing to celebrate the season.

As part of this, iGamingCapital.mt reached out to a number of leading professionals and companies to ask how they would be celebrating Christmas and what their expectations for the new year would be.

Nicola Magro, the newly appointed head of legal at Kalamba Games, explains that while she would normally travel abroad for Christmas, COVID has made this impossible, and as such it will be a quiet, intimate family affair.

“This year it will be a very quiet Christmas with just a small family lunch at my sister’s home. I usually like to be abroad during this time but due to Coronavirus travel is, of course, not currently on the cards,” she explains.

Asked about her hopes and expectations for the next year, Dr Magro states she will be focusing on developing her expertise in her new position, to help take Kalamba to new levels.

“2021 has been a year of many changes for me, both professionally and personally. I recently started a new position as Head of Legal with Kalamba Games, so I will be focussing on both contributing my current expertise, as well as developing new skills that will enable me to help take the company to new levels,” she says.

Asked about any specific New Year’s resolutions, she explains she focuses on more long term goals of personal and professional development: “I don’t really believe in New Year’s resolutions specifically, but I do have a lifelong resolution, which is to strive to continuously improve myself, both personally and professionally.”

Discussing what she expects the key challenges and changes facing Kalamba to be in the coming years, she points to its changing business focuses.

“From Kalamba’s perspective, as we move from a games studio to becoming a technology supplier, the main challenge will be adapting to differing regulatory environments between markets.

“That’s always been an issue in Europe, but as the US opens up, it will likely become even more of a challenge for the industry. Luckily Bullseye, Kalamba’s remote gaming server, is well equipped to deal with this!”
