The iGaming industry is generally an early adopter of innovative technology due to the nature of the sector. While everybody was coming to speed with blockchain technology and the use of cryptocurrencies, industry players were already exploring how such technology could serve their own purposes.

The same can be said for AI. While many largely ignored the concept until services such as ChatGPT became popular, the iGaming industry was already familiar with the technology due to the way it is used to meet rigorous compliance and due diligence requirements. Its selling point remains the ability to collect and process large amounts of data while still protecting the privacy and security of individuals.

Other areas in which tech-savvy iGaming firms have already adopted AI is when engaging customers through Conversational AI solutions or through the development of VR games.

At a recent panel discussion focusing on AI and organised by the Malta Business Network, the Malta Gaming Authority’s deputy chief regulatory officer, Brandon Debattista, spoke about the tech’s use across the industry.

Here, he discussed how in this current climate, iGaming industry operators must make use of AI to remain competitive and stay ahead, beyond the compliance sphere:

“The gaming industry is no stranger to AI and the technology has become part of day-to-day operations. Nowadays, the use of the technology has become a necessity for operators, not just to be compliant, but also to stay ahead of the game.”
