Pedro Romero has been appointed chief of safer gambling partnerships at safer gambling software provider BetBlocker.org, he announced on Monday.

Taking to social media, he expressed excitement about the appointment, saying: “I look forward to working with the BetBlocker team and forging partnerships with operators, charities, service providers and regulators to minimise gambling-related harm.”

BetBlocker is a popular free tool to help individuals limit their gambling. Its self exclusion feature claims to be able to prevent players from accessing over 15,484 gambling websites. It is available on a range of platforms, with versions available for both mobile phone and desktop devices.

Users can select how long they want to be blocked for, and the tool claims that when it is activated, restrictions cannot be lifted until the selected length has expired.

The tool also features a parental control setting that allows it to be switched on and off via a password to help parents stop their children accessing gambling content.

Mr Romero will bring a strong background in responsible gambling to the role. He was appointed as head of safer gambling at 888holdings in July of last year, previously serving as head of customer operations at Jackpotjoy Group from 2018.

After this, who moved on to Gaming Innovation Group (GiG) where he served as sustainability and safer gambling consultant before moving to William Hill as its head of safer gambling policy.
