International Game Technology (IGT) has been selected by National Lottery plc to provide lottery technology and services for the country’s upcoming national lottery concession running from 2022 to 2032.

Responding, Jay Gendron, the COO of IGT, explained that the company has been working with National Lottery plc for several months, and that the company aims to provide the “highest quality” of lottery experience based in its expertise as a world leader and its local knowledge of the Maltese national lottery.

National Lottery plc won Malta’s lottery concession after a €105 million bid last year. The company is majority owned by Izi Group plc, and has the group’s majority shareholder Johann Schembri as a director, according to the Malta Business Registry.

Izi Group also owns leading local gambling company Izibet, which offers both online and retail gambling services to customers, and holds the majority of shares in Peninsula Gaming Group, which operates the popular Dragonara Casino via Dragonara Gaming Ltd.

Mr Schembri commented on the deal with IGT, saying: “We have been preparing for this product for over two years as we wanted to partner with the leading global lottery technology provider that is innovative, has the experience in operating state lotteries and understands the local context.

“This is what we found in IGT, making this choice one of our group’s most important strategic decisions.”

IGT is one of the world’s leading online gaming and lottery technology providers globally. It is publicly listed on the New York Stock Exchange and is present in over 100 countries.
